"Secret Lives of Moms"

Momversation’s Heather Armstrong, Karen Walrond, Giyen Kim, Mindy Roberts, and Daphne Brogdon (also of Cool Mom) were featured on the April 6, 2009 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Secret Lives of Moms.

"How about birth by zipper?"

Daphne Brogdon of Cool Mom contributed an essay about childbirth to the April 2009 issue of Pregnancy. Excerpt:

What’s with the superiority of vaginal birthers? I’ll admit it, I once was one of them. Of course this was before I’d given birth. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I envisioned a totally natural birth. I was all ready to drop her in an open field, cut the cord with a nearby branch, and wrap her up in a hemp blanket. It didn’t go like that. She was breech and late, so after much protest I succumbed to a C-section. Sure I felt like a truck had hit me for the first few days afterward, but at least I could still hold my pee in. Life is full of trade-offs.

Earlier this year, the Unilever and Sprint-branded web series In the Motherhood, starring Chelsea Handler and Leah Remini, got a deal to become a mid-season replacement show on ABC. Johnson and Johnson enlisted Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay to create a series of mom-focused animated shorts. And new media studio Deca got all parental with CoolMom….Why are moms suddenly so hot? As we noted in February, BSM Media reported that 80 percent of moms had watched an online video in the last week.

"Daphne Brogdon is a Cool Mom"

  • Sarah Ricard for Tilzy.TV
  • June 17, 2008

For CoolMom, Brogdon turns the glamour down a notch; she dresses like a “mom” (though she’s not wearing mom jeans, per se) with very little makeup. She looks like a real person (granted a very attractive real person), versus a TV host. But unlike the everyday mom, Brogdon is polished in front of a camera, and her quips are a step above what you might overhear at a PTA meeting. She’s also a reminder that you can be a great mom without being a “perfect” mom.
